Welcome to 5th grade Advanced Mathematics! This year will be an exiting year full of learning, growing, and fun!

Get excited for some geometry! We begin our year in Chapter 10 where we learn about angles: identifying and measuring; polygons; congruent and similar figures; and all you'd ever want to know about triangles! Then we will glide through Chapter 1 as we review place value, addition and subtraction. Chapter 2 will find us exploring all aspects of multiplication: patterns, multiplying two and three digits, zeros in the multiplicand, zeros in the multiplier as well as the multiplication of money! We will likely end the first quarter in Chapter 3 with division. So much to do!

Tests will be administered to assess mastery of learned subject matter. They typically take place at the end of a chapter. Sufficient notice will be given to write dates in assignment pads. Tests are graded and reviewed the next class period

Quizzes will be administered frequently and are usually announced. Students will often have 2-3 quizzes per chapter.

Classwork will be assigned often. Students are encouraged to complete their work in class. Any unfinished work is expected to be completed at home that day. please refer to the following rubric for classwork and homework: *must be completed sequentially in notebook in pencil * must be appropriately labeled with date, page #, and problem # *must include the complete problem as it appears in the text *will be corrected the next class and scored in pen *all work must be clearly shown for full credit *late work loses 5 points per day late *grades begin at 100%
